Honorable Mention Point and Perspective Treezaa (T. E. Ballard) I. I will paint my father red with morning next to the mustard house, the house I was never allowed to call orange. I will give him the eyes black with youth, the cigarettes rolled in the sleeve and he will sway on his feet green from the weeds of Maine, cowslips growing out of his palm. You will wonder then if you know him, if long ago he was something lost; a button, a key. You will think of a name and it will flutter there on the tip, then it will fall as you realize that you do not remember. II. The most difficult portrait is one of ink for there is no room for mistake. Spacing of the eyes must be precise, shadows are not allowed to linger. The best way to succeed is not to think. Or simply be abstract. What is the weight of a dead bird? Let the lines cross then recede. Tell yourself here is your mother, here is the heavy cross of a wing.
